Maligayang Araw ng Kalayaan!
Today, we celebrate the freedom and liberty of our nation, fought for us by the brave revolutionaries of 1896 and declared on a balcony in Kawit that fateful day in June 1898.
Let us never forget history; let us never forget what the heroes of our country, extraordinary in their ordinariness, sacrificed for a brighter future for themselves and their beloved land. May we always remember the true meaning of liberty, of liberation, what it means to be completely and wholly free, and may our thoughts and actions be a reflection of the deep need to uphold and fight for the dignity of every human being—in our country, our region, and the world.
