[AGS] Fire Prevention Month
28 Feb 2023
The Philippines observes Fire Prevention Month in March when temperature and humidity rise. Fires usually occur in these conditions. The Bureau of Fire Protection posted 13,029 fire incidents in the country in 2022 alone.
As we observe Fire Prevention Month, we are reminded of the hazards and dangers of fire and are encouraged to promote safety consciousness as a positive preventive approach.
Knowledge of fire prevention and safety precautions will keep us safe; vigilance and caution are paramount.
Here are some tips to avoid the occurrence of fire.
- Do not play with flammable materials.
- Unplug electrical equipment when not in use.
- Secure the LPG tank and check for gas leaks.
- Conduct family emergency drills and plan an escape route.
In case of fire, follow this advice.
- Use a wet cloth to cover the mouth and nose to avoid inhaling fumes.
- If clothes catch fire, do the “Stop, Drop, and Roll” technique, and shout for help.
- When you can get out, you must stay out!
Presence of mind is crucial in this situation, and rational behavior spells the difference between being a victim and a survivor. Therefore, stay alert so you don’t get hurt!
