Investing in Climate and Disaster Resilience

Launched on January 24, 2018, the Coastal Cities at Risk Philippines: Investing in Climate and Disaster Resilience (CCARPH) project of the Ateneo de Manila University aims to raise awareness of climate change risk in coastal cities in the Philippines.
In partnership with the Manila Observatory and the National Resilience Council, the project covers the low-lying coastal, river-delta megacities of Quezon City, Pasig City, Navotas City, and Valenzuela City in Metro Manila as well as the cities of Iloilo, and Naga.
Through the project, workshops for resilience such as "Investing in Climate and Disaster Resilience: Focus on Water Governance and Security" was held in Iloilo and attended by various public and private partners of the Iloilo City Resilience Team. This included the City Engineer’s Office, Department of Education in Iloilo, Philippine Call Center Institute Iloilo, Information Services Office, and the City Environment and Natural Resources Office, among others.
CCARPH also envisions the creation of a science-informed and socially inclusive resilience plan for replication in other cities as well. Partnerships agreements which were ultimately aimed at the development of resilience masterplan for vulnerable coastal areas were signed with the partner local governments.
Sessions on community resilience formed the basis of information exchange and dissemination of learnings shared in the CCARPH hosted lecture series on Mekong River Development with the Loyola Schools Departments of Political Science and Sociology and Anthropology.
