Workshop on Distilling Climate Information for Sectoral Applications with ICTP
13 Dec 2019
A five and a half day workshop held from December 9-13, 2019 highlighted the need for mainstreaming the integration of climate data, especially climate change projections, into systems planning both horizontally across sectors and vertically across governance levels. This hands-on technical workshop was developed for researchers and practitioners needing to use climate data for specific sectoral applications. Workshop sessions were aimed at providing tools and concepts for participants to identify sources of climate data, to apply basic processing techniques, and distill the data into information that would be useful for decision-making. Speakers and participants came from all over the world.
The event was co-sponsored by the Department of Environmental Science and the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), and co-directed by Dr. Adrian Tompkins (ICTP) and Dr. Kendra Gotangco Gonzales (AIS and ES Department). Funding was received from ICTP, International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), and the Loyola Schools Internationalization Grant.
