New Dean of the School of Humanities

I am pleased to announce that following the endorsement of Dr Maria Luz C Vilches, Vice President for Higher Education, and upon my own recommendation, the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees appointed Dr Patricia P Lambino as Dean of the School of Humanities for an initial 3-year term from 1 June 2024 to 31 May 2027.

Dr Lambino currently serves as Assistant Dean of the School of Humanities and is an Assistant Professor of the Department of Theology. Trish, as she is fondly called by her colleagues, brings to this office her wealth of experience as educator, scholar, and leader. Trish has taught theology in Ateneo since 1996. Since May 2021, she has served as coordinator for the faculty cluster of the Discerning Life Questions (DLQ) 10 course. She headed the Formation Institute for Religion Educators (FIRE) and oversaw the Department of Theology’s MA Program from June 2017 to May 2020. Trish taught graduate courses as well at the East Asian Pastoral Institute (EAPI). She holds the roles of editor and reviewer of several local and international peer-reviewed journals. Her research interests include religious education/catechesis history and method, contextual theologies, popular religiosity, and evangelization.

Trish holds a PhD in Religious Education and Catechetics from the Catholic University of America, Washington, DC (2010), an MA in Theological Studies from Loyola School of Theology (2001) and a BS in Management from Ateneo de Manila University (1996).

On behalf of Ateneo de Manila, I would like to thank Trish for accepting this new appointment and for her willingness and generosity to serve in this mission.

We also thank Dr Jonathan O Chua for his commendable leadership as Dean of the School of Humanities since 2017. Under Dr Chua’s guidance, SOH attained greater support for the professional development of faculty through the Kwan Laurel Professional Enhancement Fund. Dr Chua also forged external linkages that made possible the staging of lectures, performances, and conferences, which allowed for a better appreciation of the classics in the arts and humanities as well as the flourishing of knowledge in culture, history, and literature.
