Memo # U2122-063
18 March 2022

Memo to        :           The University Community

Subject           :           Vice President for Mission Integration

Lino Rivera

I am pleased to inform the community that upon the approval of the Executive Committee of the Ateneo de Manila Board of Trustees, the Office of the Vice President for Social Development (VPSD) will be transitioned to become the Office of the Vice President for Mission Integration (VPMI) effective 1 June 2022. Moreover, the Executive Committee of the Board appointed the incumbent VPSD Mr Rizalino “Lino” D Rivera as Vice President for Mission Integration effective 1 June 2022 to 31 May 2023.

On behalf of the Ateneo de Manila, I would like to thank Lino for his magnanimity in accepting this new mission.

Under the supervision of the President, the Vice President for Mission Integration is primarily responsible for instilling, nourishing, and promoting the core values and principles of the Ateneo de Manila University, as embodied in the teachings of St Ignatius of Loyola and the Society of Jesus, among members of the Ateneo community.

In promoting and developing a thriving culture based on Ignatian Spirituality and its integral component of generous service to God and to society, the Vice President for Mission Integration shall be responsible and accountable for:

  1. the wholistic formation of the members of the Ateneo community in the following aspects of development and formation: spiritual, psychological, social and physical; and,
  2. ensuring that the University stays faithful to its mission of rendering meaningful service to society.

The VPMI is a new position which will bring together the functions of “formation” and “social engagement” in the different academic and administrative units of the university. As such, current efforts are being undertaken so that “formation offices” as well as “social engagement offices” will report functionally to the VPMI even as they continue to serve specific academic or central administrative units.

To ensure a smooth and efficient transition, I have requested Mr Rivera to discuss this functional reorganization with the heads of the offices that will be affected, and to determine suitable timelines and change management plans.

Please see the attached list of offices whose heads will report to the VPMI.

Let us support the Vice President for Mission Integration with our cooperation and prayers.

(Sgd) Roberto C Yap SJ
President
