It has been a tradition in the University to gather as one community during the Lenten season to ponder the meaning of Christ’s self-offering through the Way of the Cross.

This year, we are again blessed to be accompanied by the Pilgrim Image of the Black Nazarene. Kneeling under the weight of the cross which He bears, the Black Nazarene “…ay hindi pagtumba ni Hesus ngunit pagtayo o pagbangon ni Hesus mula sa kanyang pagkadapa.”  Thus, the theme of the 2022 University Way of the Cross is “Pagbangon: A Way to Healing and Transformation” where we bring into communal reflection and prayer our hope for healing, renewal, and restoration as we continue to live amidst the challenge of the pandemic and our anticipation of the upcoming National Elections.

The University Way of the Cross will be on Friday, 18 March 2022. It will start with a Mass at 4:00 pm to be followed by the Way of the Cross at the Church of the Gesù, and, finally, the procession of the Poong Nazareno around the Bellarmine Field. It will be video recorded by JesCom and live-streamed via Radyo Katipunan.

I thank the Ateneo Junior and Senior High Schools for spearheading the 2022 University Way of the Cross and for everyone’s support and cooperation. May this community tradition lead us to a meaningful encounter with the mystery of Christ’s Passion.
