AB Diplomacy and International Relations
With Specialization In East And Southeast Asian Studies
The AB Diplomacy and International Relations (AB Dip IR) program aims to equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge on diplomacy, foreign policy and international relations. The course prepares students for careers in international institutions, regional organizations, international law, human rights, consular and diplomatic practice. The program carries geopolitical and issue area specializations to deepen student engagement and network in international diplomatic circles.
The AB Dip IR graduate is equipped with theoretical knowledge and diplomatic history and Philippine foreign policy, and has sufficient understanding of the politics and governments of East and Southeast Asian countries. S/he has a mastery of either Chinese, Korean, or Japanese language, and is equipped with the practical skills in theorizing, research, writing, and additionally of foreign policy analysis and negotiation in a simulated environment. The AB Dip IR graduate is immersed in experiential learning which further equips him/her with multicultural literacy and sensitivity and the knowledge of bureaucratic systems in accordance with the pillars of Philippine democracy as well as of the other countries in East and Southeast Asia.
Program Learning Outcomes
Appraise the relevance of Political Science frameworks vis-a-vis other disciplinal frameworks and/or approaches in the national, regional and global political contexts
Explain theories and concepts on diplomacy, foreign policy, and international relations
Evaluate foreign policy actions of Philippine foreign policy leaders in relation to their significance to national interest and relevance to regional dynamics
Construct evidence based and ethically sound research and foreign policy analysis
Demonstrate ability to apply theoretical and conceptual learnings in real-world work environments through internship
Display ability to work effectively in an intercultural environment through the practice of appropriate cross cultural communication and sensitivities
Careers
The program provides rigorous training to students who are inclined to take the Foreign Service Exam and enter the diplomatic corps.
