Nihongo for Everyone

Body

NIHONGO FOR EVERYONE is a course for beginners that is open to both Ateneo and non-Ateneo Japanese language learners, 16 years old and above. It focuses on basic communication skills, particularly through speaking and listening. The course also introduces a basic knowledge of Japanese characters for everyday use in Japan.

Objectives

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Use basic Japanese in a variety of everyday situations.
  • Express simple ideas in Japanese.
  • Understand basic instructions in Japanese
  • Read/recognize basic Japanese characters Hiragana (46 characters), Katakana (46 characters) and simple Kanji.

 

Who May Enroll

Nihongo for Everyone is a non-credit extramural class that is open to senior high school and college students. Professionals, working adults and those who just want to learn a new language are all welcome. Those with background in the Japanese language but need to brush up on their Nihongo may also enroll. For younger students, please contact us before enrolling.

 

Courses Offered

Nihongo for Everyone 1  

Nihongo for Everyone is a course for beginners. It focuses on basic communication skills, particularly through speaking and listening. The course also introduces a basic knowledge of Japanese characters for everyday use in Japan.

 

Nihongo for Everyone 2

A course for those who finished Nihongo for Everyone I: Basic Japanese Language I, or 30 hours of classroom instruction. It introduces additional basic expressions, sentence patterns, and useful vocabulary needed to conduct daily communication with Japanese people.

 

Nihongo for Everyone 3

A course for those who finished Nihongo for Everyone II or 60 hours of classroom instruction; students who finish the course are expected to reach the  proficiency equivalent to the N5 level of the new Japanese Language Proficiency Test.

 

Nihongo for Everyone 4

A course for those who finished Nihongo for Everyone III or 90 hours of classroom instruction; students are introduced to intermediate-level grammar, vocabulary, and more kanji.

 

Nihongo for Everyone 5

A course for those who finished Nihongo for Everyone 4 or 120 hours of classroom instruction; students who finish the course are expected to reach the  proficiency equivalent to the N4 level of the new Japanese Language Proficiency Test.

 

Nihongo for Everyone 6

An intermediate course for those who finished Nihongo for Everyone 5 or 150 hours of classroom instruction.

 

Schedule (Tentative)

Saturdays

Synchronous: 1.5-hours/day x 10 sessions = 15 hours
Asynchronous: 15 hours of online modules and exercises

Venue

Classes are held in the Loyola Schools Campus of Ateneo de Manila University, Katipunan Avenue, Loyola Heights, Quezon City. Specific classrooms are announced before the classes start.

However, due to the pandemic, all Nihongo extramural classes are conducted ONLINE until further notice. The sessions are held via Zoom.

 

Registration and Payment

Online registration fee: PhP4,800 per course (Regular: Php5,000.00) 

Inclusions:

  • 30 hours of ONLINE instruction (15 hrs synchronous & 15 hrs asynchronous)
  • Course handouts
  • Certificate*

 

* A Certificate of Completion is given to those who finished the course successfully, while a Certificate of Enrollment is given to those who enrolled but were not able to complete the course or were not able to fulfill the course's requirements.

 

A filled out registration form should be sent with the proof of payment (MBTC Deposit Slip or Ateneo Official Receipt) to the JSP office personally or via email. Registration link for ONLINE classes are posted on the Ateneo JSP Facebook page.

  • ​Through the Ateneo Cashier's office, Ground floor, Xavier Hall (For check payments, payee should be "Ateneo de Manila University") (Not available at this time)

 

Notes:

  • Schedule may change due to work suspensions and/or holiday declarations. 
  • Refunds for withdrawal before the classes start will be 50% of the fee paid. There will be no more refunds after the start of the course; if a class is dissolved, refund for this is 100%. Enrolled students will not be allowed to defer to the next cycle once classes have already started.
