Development Studies Program
Major in Development Studies is ideal for individuals who want to make effective contributions to improve Philippine society through international development organizations, law, politics, foreign service, government, non-government organizations, corporate foundations, and business. This degree program has been offered by the Development Studies Program since 1986.

Aside from the courses included in the Ateneo’s core curriculum, the program requires the following subjects:

Furthermore, students will have up to six major electives and must use these electives to specialize in one or two of the following fields:

Shifting Requirements:
The following requirements apply to students who intend to shift to AB Development Studies.
1.1 The application must be interviewed by the Program Director, Dr. Leslie A. Lopez.
1.2 Students must obtain no lower than C in SocSc 11, SocSc 12, SocSc 13 and SocSc 14 (if already taken). This requirement is non-negotiable.
NOTE: Please provide a copy of all your grades.
Retention Requirements:
(These requirements apply to ALL DS Majors and shiftees)
2.1 All DS Majors and shiftees must obtain a mark no lower than C in DEV 100.1 (Perspectives in Development: Economics).
2.2 Students who receive an F will automatically released from the program.
2.3 Students who receive a D in DEV 100.1 will be placed on probation. They must get an average of C for these three subjects: DEV 100.1 (Perspectives in Development: Economics, DEV 100.2 (Perspectives in Development: Poliics) and DEV 100.3 (Perspectives in Development: Sociology). Students who fail to meet this requirement will be automatically released from the program.
Others Requirements:
3.1 Students who shift into the program must take all subjects required for atleast one year.
3.2 Students are not allowed to take any other subject along with DEV 197.1 (Practicum in Social Development).
3.3 Students share the responsibility for making sure that they are following the program of study that will culminate in their timely graduation. Students who choose to deviate from the approved program of study will be held responsible for their actions.
3.4 The program is not obliged to offer any course not regularly offered for a particular semester.
