I. Description
The Ateneo School of Government is the public policy academic arm of the Ateneo de Manila University. Its long-term mission is to teach and work with effective and ethical public servants to build prosperous, sustainable, just, and happy communities in the Philippines, empowered by democratic, participatory, transparent, and accountable governance institutions and processes. Through its research and extension programs, and its work with public, private and civil society organizations, ASOG aims to develop and foster innovative ideas and approaches in order to change mindsets and systems in such areas as leadership, poverty eradication, climate change, social accountability, and politics.
As a graduate school for leadership and public service, ASOG's academic and executive education programs bridge the gap between classroom wisdom and real-world policy decision- making and governance. Through its research and extension programs, as well as its collaborations with public, private, and community organizations, ASOG continues to develop and foster innovative ideas and approaches in areas such as leadership, poverty eradication, climate change, social accountability, and politics.
II. Tasks and Functions
The Research Assistant II will be part of the project team, expected to provide research and general support in line with the research agenda and thematic areas of the Health Governance and Security (HG&S) Program, which includes health systems and governance, health equity and determinants, public health challenges, emergency and crisis preparedness, and environmental health or one health. The outputs of the Research Assistant II shall be submitted to the Ateneo Policy Center Head. In particular, the Research Assistant II is expected to:
- Provide research and technical assistance to the Dean, Policy Center Head, Senior Research Fellow, or assigned Non-Resident Research Fellow in the development of policy research outputs such as working papers, policy briefs, briefing notes, presentations, and journal articles, specifically by conducting reviews and analyses of literature, data gathering (may include development of research instruments; conduct of field interviews, surveys, FGDs; review of literature, etc.), as well as data analysis and write-up;
- Assist in the planning and execution of academic and policy outreach events organized by the project team and the Ateneo Policy Center, including webinars, conferences, seminars, and research colloquia.
- Aid in the continual development and upkeep of databases (e.g., partner databases, conference databases, expert databases) to facilitate network expansion.
- Assist in the completion of reports and other administrative and financial documents as required in the project implementation; and
- Perform such other functions as may be assigned by the project team similar to, and related to the functions enumerated above.
III. Description of Education, Competence, and Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in social sciences, or any related field, with above-average academic performance; Masteral units an advantage;
- Strong analytical skills and appreciation of development;
- Thematic familiarity with governance and institutions and public health;
- Proficiency in graphics presentation and other software used in project implementation is advantageous;
- Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently and deliver high-quality outputs with minimal supervision;
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Filipino; and
- Good organizational skills and the ability to contribute effectively to team research processes.
