Period Covered: Three Months (subject to renewal)


Description

The Ateneo School of Government is the public sector arm of the Ateneo de Manila University whose long-term mission is to teach and work with effective and ethical public servants to build prosperous, sustainable, just, and happy communities in the Philippines empowered by democratic, participatory, transparent, and accountable governance institutions and processes.

As a graduate school for leadership and public service, ASOG's academic and executive education programs bridge the gap between the classroom wisdom and real-world policy decision-making and governance. Through its research and extension programs, and its work with public, private and community organizations, ASOG aims to develop and foster innovative ideas and approaches in order to change mindsets and systems in such areas as leadership, poverty eradication, climate change, social accountability, and politics.

 

Tasks and Functions

The Academic Program Officer (APO) provides technical support to the Academic Head in the management and administration of the academic programs within the School.
Specifically, the Academic Program Officer will focus on the following:

1. Lead for the documentation of office processes and procedures, ensuring alignment with Higher Education policies, standards, frameworks, data management, and frameworks:

  • Research on office documentation best practices (admissions, organizing and running the classes, financial transactions, provision of administrative support and coordination with other related HE clusters, course/faculty assessments
  • Prepare and present/propose a detailed action plan/feasibility study, with a timeline and a budget
  • Once approved, lead its implementation, provide quality assurance, and packaging of the outputs
  • Track/ensure that action points are carried out
  • Provide monthly progress updates and succeeding plans
  • Coordinate with the faculty, resource persons, staff who will be involved, for schedules, meeting requirements, and required assistance

2. Technical support for the curriculum review and ensuring an OBE-compliant program:

  • Conduct secondary research on best practices, standards, or to benchmark
  • Prepares meeting/presentation materials
  • Document all related meeting outputs (proceedings, discussions, agreements) 
  • Tracks commitments/ensure that action points are carried out
  • Provide monthly progress updates and succeeding plans
  • Coordinate with the faculty, resource persons, staff who will be involved, for schedules, meeting requirements, and required assistance

3. Assists the Academic Head during other internal and external meetings, partnership development, and networking events and activities, as needed

4. Prepares a calendar of events, monitors deadlines and accomplishments, sends out reminders as needed

5. Assist in the organizational review/restructuring of the Academic Program unit

6. Closely coordinate, collaborate, and work with the Academic Program staff for these outputs

7. Perform other related tasks upon the instruction of the Academic Head

 

Description of Education, Competence and Experience Required

  1. Masters degree in business/management, education, or social sciences
  2. At least 6 years of work experience,  generally related to the job description
  3. Familiarity with Outcomes Based Education, instruction design, curriculum development, and educational taxonomies is an advantage
  4. Organized, logical, strong attention to detail, basic research skills, ability to conceptualize, resourceful, strong analytical skills, solutions-oriented 
  5. Good oral and written communication skills, including technical writing skill
  6. A critical thinker and problem-solver who is open to exploring new areas/skills
