2023 Ateneo Korean Studies Program Graduate Research and Publication Awards: CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

The Korean Studies Program (KSP) of the Ateneo de Manila University School of Social Sciences is now accepting applications for its 2023 Graduate Research and Publication Awards.

Funded by the Academy of Korean Studies, this program aims to support interdisciplinary and critical research by Filipino scholars on a Korea-related topic and promote Korean Studies that are anchored on Filipino scholarship. A research grant of up to USD 1, 200 (subject to tax) will be provided to each selected awardee. The exact grant amount will be decided based on KSP’s evaluation parameters, such as research scope. The selected awardees are required to develop an article and submit it to a reputable local or international journal within a year after the grant is awarded or on or before 31 May 2024. They are also encouraged to present their work at a relevant local or international conference and have the option of working with a faculty member from the Ateneo de Manila University for research mentoring and co-authorship.

ELIGIBILITY

1. Filipino citizen
2. MA/PhD student enrolled in any university in the Philippines, who is writing a thesis/dissertation covering any of the following themes:
   • Philippines-Korea relations
   • Korean migration and mobilities
   • Korean youth
   • Korean popular culture
   • Korean language
   • Korean Studies within the context of the Philippines and Southeast Asia

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

2. Letter of recommendation from thesis/dissertation supervisor
3. Updated CV and copy of student ID
4. 2-page research overview with the following:
   • Title
   • Introduction
   • Review of Literature
   • Methods
   • Budget
   • Timeline
5. Research abstract (250 words)

15 May 2023 (11:59PM Philippine time)

AWARDING
Selected grantees will be contacted on or before 23 May 2023. Awarding will be done online on 31 May 2023. Awardees are REQUIRED to attend the online event (between 1:00-5:00 PM).
