Generations in action: Strengthening communities, honoring creation in Lanao del Norte

From 29 to 30 March 2025, seventy-eight (78) community leaders from nine (9) communities in Northwestern Mindanao came together in Kapatagan, Lanao del Norte for a capability-building workshop on community development.
It was a meaningful time of learning and sharing. We began by exchanging stories—of struggles faced, small victories won, and the hopes that keep us moving forward as we work to build communities that are more just, inclusive, and rooted in care. The workshop ended on a high note, with participants sharing concrete ways they are helping improve their communities—efforts that reflect their contribution to caring for our common home.
One of the most inspiring moments was the active involvement of youth representatives. Their presence brought fresh insights and a hopeful energy to the conversations. They reminded us that young people are not just future leaders—they are already making a difference today, especially in the call to care for the earth and for one another.
Throughout the sessions, Laudato Si’ was a strong reminder of our shared responsibility. Pope Francis calls us to listen to both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor, and this was clear in the stories we heard. Many shared their realization and commitment to caring for their communities, both for people and the environment, knowing that the two are always connected.
The workshop affirmed that when generations come together with respect and shared purpose, we can build communities that are not only stronger, but also more compassionate and sustainable. We left with a renewed sense of connection—to one another, to the land we call home, and to the work that continues.
