In an intimate gathering with classmates, friends, and colleagues, Walden Bello, renowned academic and graduate of Ateneo de Manila University unveiled his autobiography “Global Battlefields: My Close Encounters with Dictatorship, Capital, Empire, and Love,” on 20 May 2025.
In attendance were Senator Hon. Risa Hontiveros, Chairman and CEO of Philippine Red Cross Richard Gordon, former Deputy Speaker of the Philippine House of Representatives Atty Lorenzo "Erin" Tañada III, Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino President Atty Luke Espiritu, Ateneo de Manila University Office of University Development & Alumni Affairs (OUDAA) Fr Norberto Bautista SJ, and first female Ateneo Alumni Association (AAA) President Dr Melissa S. Reyes. The event was proudly organized by Walden’s batchmates at Ateneo, HS ’62 and College ’66 at the Club House of Corinthian Gardens.
A compelling account of Walden Bello's colorful life, including his time at Ateneo de Manila University, can be found in his memoir. He attributes his courage, compassion, and tenacity—qualities he has continuously used in his difficult and challenging political journey—to his time spent with the Jesuits. In Hon. Hontiveros' keynote speech, she described the bravery she saw in her former Akbayan Representative during their time together in Congress. Collectively, these testimonies depict a principled intellectual who is resilient, moral, and with an unwavering dedication to global social justice.
