OSCI, VPMI, BLSS sponsor swimming lessons for SOW
20 May 2025 | Floy Soriano
The Office for Social Concern and Involvement, together with the Office of the Vice President for Mission Integration and Bert Lozada Swim School, co-sponsored the swimming lesson for 16 children from Solidarity with Orphans and Widows on 17 May 2025. The participants, ages 3 to 11 years old, are the same children who joined the swimming lessons for the past two years.
The event served as a reunion for all the participants and volunteers. Three volunteer swim coaches from BLSS, Laarnie Refolledo, Zeny Lariosa, and Mark Morta joined again their learners. They offered basic foundation exercises like breathing, floating, kicking, and stroking. Although the session was short, Christian happily shared during lunchtime that he now knows how to swim. “Nakalimang langoy po ako!”
Students and alumni assisted the coaches and helped organize the event. One of the students who joined was Shane Ubana (4-AB IS), who conducted her thesis with SOW. This is her way of giving back to the community for helping her produce a storybook for children from the stories of the parents.
OSCI extends its gratitude to the Physical Education Program, CSMO, and CFMO for allowing the participants to learn from the swim sessions and enjoy the facilities of the university. Lastly, we are grateful to all OSCI friends and former OSCI staff who sponsored the transportation and drinks of the participants. Until the next swimming lesson!
