From 17 to 18 April 2025, over 200 Ateneo alumni, family, and friends prayed and reflected on ‘The Paschal Graces & the Great Mysteries of Life,’ which was the theme of the Alumni Holy Week Triduum Retreat led by Fr Nono Alfonso SJ as the retreat master. This hybrid spiritual event was held at the Leong Hall Auditorium, Ateneo de Manila University.
The retreat started with an Opening Prayer by Br Jaclay John SJ, which helped in the disposition of the retreat attendees. In addition to the inputs on life’s mysteries: life, suffering, and death, as well as paschal graces: love as service, from suffering to sacrifice, and eternal life, Fr Alfonso invited theater actor Boyet de Mesa to interpretively portray Jesus’ agony on Good Friday, and Toto Sorioso to sing ‘Only Hope’ and ‘Sa Huling Pagkikita’ on Black Saturday resulting in an interactive retreat experience for the retreatants.
In his closing remarks, OUDAA Director, Fr Kit Bautista SJ acknowledged and thanked Fr Nono Alfonso SJ, for being a retreat master who is compassionate and full of passion, matapang na tao, and a unique and original retreat facilitator.
After three days, the retreatants found the Ateneo Alumni Holy Week Triduum Retreat a down-to-earth experience, makatotohanan, and “relatable” as Fr Alfonso also shared his first-hand experiences and stories with the Triduum’s themes.
All-in-all, it was a meaningful and grace-filled retreat. For the greater glory of God!
