IS students present their research at international conference in Hong Kong

Three students of IDS 199.2 Senior Seminar II presented their senior thesis projects at the PolyU Undergraduate Conference on Applied Linguistics and Language Studies held in Hong Kong on 29 March 2025.
Alyssa Mari R Ribo (Tracks: CS-Programming and Communication) presented her work "When Perception is. Real but Truth is Not: A Study on Post-Truths in Philippine English News". Meanwhile, Jan Llenz A. Dagohoy (Tracks: Sociology-Anthropology and CS-Programming) presented their work "Mapping the Urban Food Environment of Taguig City Through a Place-based Analysis of Social Capital". Both students are mentored by Dr Priscilla Tan Cruz. Finally, Raia Joon S. Catacutan (Tracks: Multimedia and Communication) presented her work "Ad Hoc Signage PH: An Online Gallery of Passive-Aggressive Ad Hoc Signages in Quezon City's Linguistic Landscape". Raia is mentored by Mr Skilty Labastilla.
According to the conference organizer Prof Eric Friginal, Head of the Department of English and Communication at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the IS students all gave amazing presentations. Alyssa Mari Ribo's paper was recognized as the best international paper presenter.
