Cabrera & Rivera are HS Champs of Oragon Debate; Rivera is HS Finals Best Speaker

The team of Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS) debaters Leah Joy Rivera (12-Beyzym) & Skye Cabrera (12-Daniel) ranked 1st in the high school (HS) category and emerged as the High School Champion of the Oragon Debate Cup 2024, which was held online on 5-6 October 2024.  

Meanwhile, three other ASHS teams were named HS finalists. Jesu Manzano (11-Hurtado) & Gabe Magabo (11-Owen) ranked 2nd in the High School category and ended their run as HS Finalists. Similarly, the team of Sian Trasmontero (12-Kibe) & Dior Gothong (11-Tsuji) ranked 3rd in the HS category and ended its run as HS Finalist. Lastly, the team of Rafael Carasig (12-Grodecky) & Arianne Co (12-Walpole) broke 4th in the HS category and emerged as the High School Finalists. 

Individual accolades were also earned by the ASHS debaters. Leah Joy Rivera was awarded High School Finals Best Speaker, 2nd Best High School Speaker, and 8th Best Open Speaker. Skye Cabrera was also named 2nd Best High School Speaker and 8th Best Open Speaker, while Jesu Manzano was recognized as 5th Best High School Speaker.

The Oragon Debate Cup 2024 was a highly competitive national debate tournament in the British Parliamentary format. It was attended by over 50 teams, making the break extremely tight with only 8 breaks in the Open category and 4 breaks in the High School category. The ASHS Debate contingent secured the High School Championship, with all four debating teams showing exemplary efforts at the Oragon Debate Cup 2024 High School Finals.
