ALiWW's Pamana Episode 4 - Soledad S. Reyes

In this episode of ALiWW's Pamana Podcast, we honor Dr Soledad S Reyes, a distinguished literary critic, scholar, and advocate for women’s voices in Philippine literature. The episode highlights her pioneering contributions to literary criticism, cultural studies, and translation, particularly in uplifting Filipina writers who have been historically overlooked.

The episode features key moments from the SOL Event held on 7 March 2025, where Dr Reyes was awarded the prestigious Paz Marquez Benitez Exhibit, Woman of Note, for her transformative impact on Philippine literary studies. This exhibit, named after Paz Marquez Benitez, the author of Dead Stars and a trailblazer in Philippine literature, recognizes scholars and writers who have significantly shaped literature and literary discourse in the country.

Listeners will hear Dr Reyes’s reflections on translating Genoveva Edroza-Matute’s I Am a Voice, published by the Ateneo de Manila University Press. She discusses the relevance of translating Filipina authors whose stories continue to resonate in our contemporary lives. The episode also shows her gratitude as subject of the Paz Marquez Benitez Exhibit and the importance of inclusivity in literary studies.

Through this podcast, we celebrate Dr Soledad S Reyes’s legacy, her dedication to Philippine literature, and her lifelong advocacy for women’s voices in the national literary canon.
