The Ateneo School of Government (ASoG) held the training workshop course on Contract Management for the Public Sector on 6-7 March 2025, at Pacifico Ortiz Hall. The course was participated by representatives from the Public-Private Partnership Center of the Philippines, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, Philippine Competition Commission, Securities and Exchange Commission, National Economic and Development Authority, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Education, and the Philippine Society of Public Health Physicians.

The two-day training workshop was structured to enhance participants’ competence in managing contracts efficiently, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and mitigating potential risks in public sector projects. Designed as an immersive learning experience, the program combined interactive lectures, hands-on workshops, group exercises, and case studies, allowing participants to engage with real-world contract management scenarios. Through these activities, they gained a deeper understanding of contract fundamentals, lifecycle management, and ethical considerations that shape effective decision-making in government procurement and project implementation. The training also addressed critical issues such as ethical dilemmas, conflict of interest, and confidentiality in contracting, equipping participants with the knowledge and strategies needed to uphold transparency, accountability, and public trust in their respective institutions.

Atty Danny E Bunyi, senior partner at DivinaLaw with over 30 years of legal expertise, led the training, offering practical insights on contract management in government projects. With experience in both the private and public sectors, he provided a comprehensive perspective on legal frameworks, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation, helping participants navigate the complexities of public sector contracts. A seasoned lecturer, Atty Bunyi also teaches corporation and partnerships law at the Ateneo de Manila University John Gokongwei School of Management.

The program began with opening remarks from Dr Philip Arnold P Tuaño, Dean of the Ateneo School of Government, who emphasized that ethical leadership and good governance are essential in building trust, safeguarding the public interest, and ensuring that government contracts translate into better services, infrastructure, and opportunities for all. In her closing message, Ms Sharon Grace S Yabut, Head of the Executive Education Program, encouraged participants to apply the lessons and insights gained from the training in their daily work and decision-making, reinforcing their commitment to integrity, accountability, and excellence.

The Executive Education Program continues to support the development of public sector professionals through high-quality training programs. To learn more about upcoming courses or register for future programs, email us at execed.asog@ateneo.edu.
