Congratulations to Professor Emeritus Soledad S Reyes on her latest book. Vibal Press and The Office of the Dean, UP College of Arts and Letters (CAL) will launch The Twentieth-Century Philippines in Ten Novels: Literature as History (1913-1975) by Soledad Reyes on Wednesday, 26 February 2025, 3:00-5:00 p.m., at Palma Hall / AS, Pavilion 1, Room 1131 (Roces corner Quirino Streets), UP Diliman.
The book is composed of ten essays, one essay per novel, published between the periods of American colonialism, the Commonwealth Era, freedom and reconstruction after World War II, and the Martial Law Period.
The novels presented in this book are not just mere reenactments of critical historical moments but magnificent works that show the storytelling brilliance and personal interpretations of the novelists about certain vital events in the country’s history.
