[ENGLISH] Update on Pre-Execution Conference held on 13 November 2024
In a pre-execution conference held at the Voluntary Arbitration Unit of the National Conciliation and Mediation Board (NCMB), Ateneo de Manila University confirmed its previous manifestation that it is willing to pay the monetary award directly to the individual employees affected, in accordance with the Decision of the Voluntary Arbitration Panel. This offer was made with the understanding that the payments would be subject to applicable taxes and would not prejudice the University’s pending Petition with the Court of Appeals.
Unfortunately, the Union promptly rejected this proposal, and insisted that any monetary payouts should be directed to the Union rather than to the individual employees.
Despite the University's request for a follow-up conference to further explore manners of voluntary payment to the employees, the Union and its counsel requested for the termination of the pre-execution proceedings and indicated that they would only accept arrangements that involve payment directly to the Union.
At present, the actual payment and final execution of the judgment award are pending clarification with the NCMB.
Ateneo de Manila University remains steadfast in pursuing its appeal on the merits while ensuring fairness and compliance with all legal requirements. Employees with questions or concerns regarding their involvement in this matter may contact employee.relations.uhross@ateneo.edu.
We appreciate your continued understanding and support as we navigate this process.
