National security community embarks on a quest for a Filipino victory in the WPS, in a forum hosted by ASOG

On 24 October 2024, the Ateneo Policy Center of the Ateneo School of Government convened a gathering of national security experts to discuss ways to resolve the long-running territorial dispute between China and the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea.
The forum highlights the paper, “Towards a Filipino Theory of Victory: A Multi-Dimensional Approach to Countering China’s Strategy Against the Philippines.” The paper, in its incipient stage, offers a framework for addressing China’s actions in the West Philippine Sea, focusing on denial and cost-imposition strategies to address current and future security scenarios.
The event in October will wrap up the Center’s strategic forum that discussed the West Philippine Sea situation earlier this year. A nascent idea, the “Theory of Victory,” served as a unifying thread in the subsequent discussions; it seeks to specify the desired outcome of the West Philippine Sea conflict and to provide standards for its successful resolution.
