Ateneo School of Government awards diplomas to CGSC Batches 72 and 73
13 Nov 2024
The Ateneo School of Government (ASoG) awarded the Diplomas in Public Management for batches 72 and 73 of the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) Program on Tuesday, 12 November, via Zoom.
The event was hosted by ASoG Academic Program Head Mr Javier Jimenez, who introduced the innovative twinning program established in 2020. This program syncs ASoG’s Master in Public Management with the AFP’s Command and General Staff Course, underpinned by cutting-edge, evidence-based policy research, the most relevant of which is the AFP-ASOG Leadership and Management Competency Framework. As of this year, the program has already welcomed almost 100 student-officers from the AFP.
Keynote Speaker Rear Admiral Rommel Jude G Ong of the Philippine Navy (ret) and current ASOG Professor of Praxis encapsulated the program experience, which was to provide the students with additional edge as leaders that can hopefully help them make decisions in the future.
This was followed by the awarding of Diploma in Public Management to 8 Student-Officers from CGSC Batch 72 and 18 Student-Officers from CGSC Batch 73.
Batch 72 representative and member of ASOG CGSC Class 71 Lieutenant Colonel Charlie Antonio Domingo (PA) extended their cohort’s gratitude to both AFP and ASoG for the opportunity to gain new knowledge beyond the perspective of the military. While their long experience in the AFP have helped them become experts in their fields, the program has helped them tackle new security concerns that have emerged over the years.
Meanwhile, Batch 73 representative Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Bayawan Jr. (PA), looked forward to putting everything they have learned from the program into practice as they move forward in their career.
Finally, ASoG Dean Philip Arnold P Tuaño, PhD closed the event by urging the awardees to go beyond traditional military tactics, practice a multi-dimensional approach in leadership, and carry with them all their learnings to spark hope and change in the AFP. The AFP CGSC-ASOG MPM Twinning Program is supported by financial resources from the AFP and the San Ignacio de Loyola Valor Fellowship, a tuition and fees support fund established by Ateneo de Manila University in 2019 that seeks to build essential competencies in management and ethical leadership, and ultimately helps students embark on the journey to become the best leader they can be.
The Ateneo School of Government congratulates the ASoG CGSC Batch 72 and 73 and wishes them the best in their journey of service.
