09 Oct 2024
For the third straight year, Ateneo de Manila University ranks first among Philippine institutions in the annual Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
For the 2025 rankings, released on Wednesday, 9 October 2024, Ateneo de Manila continues to be ranked in the 1001-1200 bracket.
The rankings are based on 5 Pillars: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry, and international outlook. The rankings per pillar are as follows:
- Teaching (29.5% of overall score): rank 744 globally
- Research Environment 29%): 1673
- Research Quality (30%): 928
- Industry (4%): 1501
- International Outlook (7.5%): 1511
Five other Philippine institutions were ranked, and an additional 15 were listed as "reporter" institutions, meaning they have submitted data but were not eligible to be ranked.
"I congratulate everyone in the University—students, faculty, staff, administrators, and professionals—on this latest achievement," said Fr Roberto Yap SJ, University President.
"The Times Higher Education World University Rankings is global recognition that Ateneo de Manila is a top performing university in the Philippines," said Yap. "However, rankings like these do not fully define what Ateneo stands for; they are merely tools for benchmarking and continual improvement as an institution."
Yap added: "Our core mission remains the same: to educate and form minds and hearts to be of service to others, in a distinctly Filipino, Catholic, and Jesuit way."
First launched in 2004, the THE World University Rankings is one of the most authoritative global higher education ranking tables. The rankings are based on institutions' performance in teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook.
For this round, THE said a total of 2,092 institutions from 115 countries and territories were ranked.
