ASOG, World Bank organize presentation on Philippines Growth and Jobs Report
11 Sep 2024

As the government continues to express its commitment to creating high-quality jobs for Filipinos under this administration, it is a timely initiative to evaluate the country’s economic and employment trends in recent years.
Last 4 September 2024, the Ateneo School of Government, through the Ateneo Policy Center, organized a presentation of the upcoming Philippines Growth and Jobs Report by the World Bank Group. Dr Gonzalo Varela, Lead Economist and Program Leader for Prosperity in Philippines, Malaysia, and Brunei; and Mr Jaime Frias, Senior Economist for Finance, Competitiveness, and Innovation presented the preliminary findings and policy implications of the report. Discussions touched on the ongoing debate between service- or manufacturing-oriented growth, servicification in the Philippines, and growth projections for the country amidst issues from the pandemic.
