The Ateneo College Ministry Group (ACMG) was blessed to have been invited by the Society of Jesus in the Philippines to serve in the Eucharistic celebration commemorating the Solemnity of St Ignatius of Loyola last Sunday, 28 July 2024, at the Ateneo High School Covered Courts with the theme “Celebrating Collaboration in Mission”. Members of the Ateneo community, together with other Jesuit schools and communities, joined the celebration in honor of the life and legacy of St Ignatius, whose teachings and values continue to inspire the Ateneo.
The presider and homilist for this year’s Province Wide Mass was Reverend Father Xavier Olin SJ, Provincial Superior of the Jesuits in the Philippines; concelebrated by Rev Fr Roberto Yap SJ, President of Ateneo de Manila University; Rev Fr Primitivo Viray SJ, President of the Jesuit Conference of Asia Pacific, and other Jesuit Fathers. During the Mass, the faithful paid a tribute video to the Jubilarians who were celebrating their jubilees as Priests and as Jesuits and offered a song to Mary, Mother of the Church and Mother of the Society of Jesus. There was also a special collection dedicated to the formation of young Jesuits and the care of sick and aged Jesuits.
As one community, ACMG is beyond grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve in the mass and be a part of the grand choir. This was also the first year for ACMG to be the servers for the Province Mass, reflecting the deeper commitment of service to the community through the liturgy. Some members were also honored to sing along with the grand choir under the music direction of Rev Fr Arnel Aquino SJ and Scholastic Dom Bulan SJ.
ACMG is excited about the opportunities this role has opened up for further involvement in community and special liturgical celebrations, while also sustaining the projects and faith formation program for AY 2024-2025.
About the Ateneo College Ministry Group:
The Ateneo College Ministry Group, established in 1982, is the premier liturgical organization composed of altar servers, lectors, commentators, singers, instrumentalists, and creatives who serve in Mass. It strives to build a community of faith inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola that yearns to become like Jesus through the Eucharist. We are driven by our love of Christ in the Eucharist, rooted in a deep sense of the sacred, and aimed at serving the community through the liturgy. In fostering communion as a Kabarkada Kay Kristo, ACMG endeavors to enliven the word of God by helping the Ateneans experience life in all its fullness in love and service.
