1 August 2024 marked a significant milestone as Ateneo de Manila Grade School (AGS) welcomed girls in Kindergarten and Grade 1 for the first time in the school’s nearly 165-year history. More than 2,900 new and returning Ateneans were in the AGS campus on Thursday, 1 August, for the beginning of School Year 2024-2025. Among them were 200 new students in the first cohort of girls in the Grade School, 72 in kindergarten and 128 in grade 1.
The red-letter day saw administrators and teachers donning colorful costumes and headdresses to support and reassure the community’s youngest learners, while book-loving AGS library mascot Bibo also greeted the boys and girls and posed gamely for photos. Adding even more vigor to the event was the drum-pounding Blue Babble Band and Battalion, which cheered on this year’s new and returning Ateneans from kindergarten to Grade 6.
Classes at AGS for SY 2024-2025 were originally scheduled to open on 29 July 2024, but the after effects of Typhoon Carina on the community compelled the administrators to move the opening to 1 August 2024.
