Last 10 July, the Ateneo School of Government (ASoG), through the Executive Education Program Unit, hosted a free webinar on “Adapting to Change: Building a Future-ready Workforce in the Public Sector” . The event was held online via zoom from 10:00AM to 12:00PM and was attended by government workers, local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations, private sector professionals, and interested students.

The webinar has emphasized the importance of investing in human capital, developing middle-level skills of workers, and building a more skilled workforce. Three esteemed speakers provided insights on the workforce landscape: Dr. Leonardo A. Lanzona, Jr., a labor economist and faculty member at the Economics Department of Ateneo de Manila University; Mr. Brian Adam Anay, a development worker; and Mr. Leon Flores III, CESE, MPM, Professor of Praxis at ASoG, marketing executive, entrepreneur, and former Chairman and CEO of the National Youth Commission. These distinguished practitioners discussed sector priorities and the need for investment in skills and the development of specialized skills. The event offered a comprehensive overview of the workforce landscape, considering drivers of change such as climate change, technological advancements, educational shifts, and demographic changes.
More than 150 participants attended the online event, engaging enthusiastically and openly in the discourse on the topic at hand. The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees across various provinces throughout the country.

The event, spearheaded by the Executive Education Program unit of ASoG, marked the re-start of this year’s public offering of short courses. It aimed to prepare the workforce by equipping participants with the knowledge to be intentional in choosing the skills they will foster.

This August 2024, the Executive Education Program will relaunch its regular series of the publicly offered short courses. Anticipating the skillsets of the future, these upcoming courses will focus on upskilling and reskilling practitioners from public sector, local government units, and other stakeholders in the development sectors.
