Enhancing Financial Literacy: A Recap of Econ-tuhan Session 1 on Personal Finance
28 Jun 2024
On June 26, 2024, the Department of Economics at Ateneo de Manila University, in collaboration with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), kicked off the Econ-tuhan series with a focus on financial literacy. The first session, titled "Financial Literacy: Personal Finance," was a free training event designed specifically for high school teachers and academic administrators.
The webinar, held via Zoom, featured Ms. Marjorie B. Espejo-Einarsson from BSP’s Economic and Financial Learning Office (EFLO) as the main speaker, with Mr. Genesis Kelly Lontoc, Associate Chairperson of ADMU's Department of Economics, serving as the moderator. Ms. Espejo-Einarsson provided an in-depth exploration of fundamental financial concepts, tools, and institutions, emphasizing the importance of responsible consumption and personal savings. She explained how these practices not only improve individual household well-being but also contribute to broader economic growth.
Participants gained valuable insights into managing personal finances, understanding financial institutions, and making informed financial decisions. The session was interactive, allowing attendees to engage directly with the speaker, ask questions, and share their experiences.
