ASHS Debaters are Open Finalists and Novice Finalists of Santa Mesa Debate Open

Ateneo de Manila Senior High School debaters emerged as finalists and best speaker awardees in the Santa Mesa Debate Open (SMDO) 2024, which was held online in February 2024. Competing against 136 other teams from across Asia, the composite team of Aki Delos Santos (12-Anchieta) & Gabriel Ordoñez (ASHS '21) ranked 7th in the Open Category and ended its amazing run as Open Finalist. Similarly, the junior team of Daniel Hinkle (11-Grande) & Leah Rivera (11-Brebeuf) ranked 3rd in the Novice Category and ended its stellar run as Novice Finalist. Individually, Rafael Carasig (11-Hurtado) was also recognized as the tournament’s 8th Best Novice Speaker.
The Santa Mesa Debate Open 2024 was a large and competitive British Parliamentary debate tournament which attracted over 270 high school and collegiate debaters and adjudicators from Asia. It took place online via Zoom and Discord on 24-25 February 2024.
