Dr Mark Anthony D Abenir speaks at national conference on NSTP

Dr Mark Anthony D Abenir, an Associate Professor of the Development Studies Program who also serves as the Program Manager for Service Learning of the University was one of the Plenary Speakers and Trainers for the “National Conference for National Service Training Program (NSTP) Directors and Instructors” and “Training of Trainers of Civic Welfare Training Service (CWTS) and Literacy Training Service (LTS)” held in Baguio City last 20 May 2024. Organized by the Center for Human Research & Development Foundation Inc. (CHRDF), the conference sought to discuss recent developments on the NSTP Law, revisit pedagogical approaches in NSTP as Philippine citizenship education, provide updates on the different course content for CWTS and LTS, and open possibilities for collaboration in creating community-based programs to improve the quality of life for the members of the community.
During his Plenary Session, Dr Abenir emphasized aligning the NSTP with the Vision and Mission of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). He highlighted the program's role in fostering community engagement, promoting civic consciousness, and enhancing students' educational experience. Additionally, in his workshop on “Citizenship Training for Democratic Participation,” he underscored the importance of active youth involvement in democratic processes and community development. He highlighted practical strategies educators can employ to engage students in civic activities and encourage active participation in nation-building initiatives through real-world scenarios and experiential activities.
