23 Apr 2024
Ateneo de Manila Senior High School (ASHS) students Savi San Juan (12-Daniel), Alex Lauricio (12-Walpole), and Yanni Adoptante (12-Xavier) won medal awards in the Philippine Heat Round of the Hong Kong International Science Olympiad (HKISO), which was held online on November 26, 2023. Competing in the Senior Secondary Group category, San Juan won a back-to-back gold, following her golden performance in the 2022 HKISO Heat Round. Meanwhile, Lauricio’s gold medal win this year was a significant improvement over his bronze finish in the 2022 HKISO Heat Round. Adoptante rounds out the list of ASHS medalists with her bronze finish.

As heat round medalists, the three students have been invited to join the HKISO Final Round either online or onsite from June 7 - 8, 2024. The onsite Olympiad will be held at National University of Singapore and provide participants from various countries and regions the opportunity to work on experiments together.
The HKISO is a global science competition held annually for students from Grades 2 to 12. It closely follows the Hong Kong School Science Syllabus and tests what students have learned in their level of content in its four main categories (Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Integrated Science), thus allowing them to know their strengths and weaknesses so they can better prepare for the other categories.
