The Lily, USAID-URC showcases innovations in school governance

On 16 April 2024, the Lily Gokongwei Ngochua Leadership Academy (The Lily), in partnership with the USAID RenewHealth project implemented by University Research Co (URC), conducted a workshop on Innovations in School Governance. Held at the Areté Blue Nest, the event was attended by educational leaders from all over the country, with Dexter A Galban, Assistant Secretary for Operations of the Department of Education, giving the Opening Remarks.
The workshop focused on Mental Health as an example of innovation in school governance. It showcased the development and pilot-testing of the Lusog Isip Kabataan Education (LIKE) and the Lusog Isip Online website for Filipino students, teachers, parents and employees. Ms Christine Arcangel-Del Rosario, Principal of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines Laboratory High School (PUP LHS), spearheaded the implementation of the LIKE program in her institution and shared the positive impact of this initiative on their students.
DepEd Regional Directors, School Division Superintendents, and Principals shared examples of innovation in the areas of resource management, people development, instruction, programs, processes and policy.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr Regina Hechanova Alampay, Dr Maria Assunta Cuyegkeng, and Dr Camille Therese Yusay. Through small group and plenary discussions, the event was able to elicit policy recommendations on enabling innovations in school governance to support the goals of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM II).
