The 2023 IEEE International Conference on Internet of Things and Intelligence System (IoTaIS 2023), held 28 to 30 November 2023 in Bali, Indonesia, celebrated a research work from the Department of Electronics, Computer, and Communications Engineering (ECCE) with the Best Paper award. The awardees were the team behind the paper "IoT-enabled multilevel solar dryer for agriculture," presented by MS electronics engineering (EcE) alumnus Joseph Vincent B Lugnasin and co-authored by Ateneo Energy Research Laboratory faculty members Dr Robert Alfie S Peña and Dr Samuel Matthew G Dumlao, and the laboratory's research group leader, Dr Erees Queen B Macabebe.
The Best Paper award, bestowed upon only three papers out of a pool of 50, recognized the outstanding contributions of the energy researchers. The selection process considered factors such as originality and significance. The winning research demonstrated a significant impact on the fields of the Internet of Things (IoT) and intelligence systems.
Ateneo de Manila's presence was not limited to the award-winning paper, as other ECCE researchers showcased their research works at the conference. Engr Jan Kevin A Galicia, ECCE instructor, presented his research team's "Fully automated telemetry system for underground water LIDAR sensor," while EcE undergraduate students Jerome Daniel P Navarro and Radyn Matthew H Punla impressed the audience with their team's "Implementation of an IoT-based car park availability monitoring system."
The IoTaIS 2023 conference served as a platform for the exchange of cutting-edge ideas, fostering collaboration among international researchers and experts. Ateneo's impactful contributions continue to underscore its commitment to advancing innovation in IoT and intelligence systems.
