Ateneo de Manila Hosts PAKISAMA’s 11th National Congress

Ateneo de Manila University hosted the 11th PAKISAMA National Congress from 18 to 23 November 2023 at the Faura Hall Audio-Visual Room. PAKISAMA (Pambansang Kilusan ng mga Samahang Magsasaka) is a national confederation of farmers organizations. The theme of the Congress was Pamilyang Magsasaka: Susi Sa Pagkamit Ng Sustainable Development Goals!
In his welcoming remarks, Fr Roberto Yap, SJ, President of Ateneo de Manila University, welcomed the participants and acknowledged the long history of collaboration between PAKISAMA and Ateneo, including the efforts to support the Sumilao farmers. Mary Racelis, from Ateneo de Manila’s Sociology-Anthropology Department, served as the keynote speaker.
In attendance at the Congress were PAKISAMA Chair Noland Peñas, PAKISAMA President Herminio Agsaluna, and representatives of farmers organizations from all over the country. Undergraduate students of the university as well as professionals from the Office of Social Concern and Involvement also participated in the Congress.
