Claire Chiu bags bronzes for Journalism and Math in PH rounds of ASIAROPE, IMOCSEA

27 Oct 2023

Ateneo de Manila Senior High School student Claire Chiu (11-Bellarmino) won two bronze medals for two different disciplines - journalism and mathematics- in two recent competitions organized by the Global League of Winners, Inc. or GLOW. One bronze was for the English Journalism category of the ASIAROPE Olympiad National Round, which was held online on August 27, 2023. Claire’s other bronze was won in the International Mathematics Olympiad Competition of Southeast Asia (IMOCSEA), which was held online on September 3, 2023.

The ASIAROPE Olympiad is an international competition in Mathematics, Science, and English Journalism for Primary Levels (Grades 1 to 6), Secondary Levels (Secondary 1 to 4), and Senior Secondary Levels (Grades 11 & 12). It aims to promote excellence and proficiency in those disciplines through friendly global competitions, and to foster tourism of and for Asia and Europe.

Similarly, the IMOCSEA is also an international competition for primary and secondary levels. IMOCSEA aims to promote excellence and proficiency in Mathematics (Arithmetic, Number Theory, Number Theory, Algebra, Geometry, Logical Analysis, and Combinatorics) through friendly global competitions, and to promote tourism in the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam to other country partners worldwide.

IMOCSEA and ASIAROPE are organized by GLOW. It is a duly registered nonstock, nonprofit organization operating in Cebu City with a number of ambassadors coordinating its promotion and administration. It is also promoted worldwide by partner organizations in various countries.

As a medalist in both competitions, Claire is qualified to be part of the Philippine Teams that will represent the country in the IMOCSEA International Round to be held in Malaysia this December, and in the ASIAROPE Olympiad 2023 Final/International Round to be held in Hong Kong in May 2024.
