[AGS] Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary
05 Oct 2023
The rosary is a set of prayers that one can easily learn and take to heart. It has formula prayers – The Lord's Prayer, Hail Mary, Glory to the Father, and Fatima Prayer – that are repeated throughout. These prayers are accompanied by meditations on the important events in the lives of Jesus and Mary. Through this act of faith and love, one is invited to meditate and contemplate the values that each mystery brings.

In Ateneo, students are known to carry their rosaries in their pockets every day. Doing so is an expression of love and devotion to our Lady and to our Lord, one that allows Ateneans to pray the various mysteries of the rosary anywhere and at any time of the day. When students graduate from the Ateneo, rosaries are also given to them as a "pabaon." This sacred object reminds them that wherever they are in the world, no matter how far apart they are from family and friends, they are still connected to Jesus and Mary through love and prayers.

In one of the homilies of Fr. Jose Cecilio "Jojo" Magadia SJ, former Jesuit Philippine Provincial and Regional Assistant for the Asia-Pacific Region of the Jesuits, he said, "The rosary is given to you so that you might learn to persevere, struggle through, and finish what you begin. The rosary is there to remind you to always be generous, magnanimous, and self-giving."

Let us bring out our rosaries from our pockets, pray the mysteries, and live out the values our rosaries teach us.
