ASHS debaters Ang, Reyes, and Tango are national champs of NAsHDC; Tango is Finals Best Speaker

Consisting of Ateneo de Manila Senior High School debaters Jasmin Ang (12-Ogilvie), Kristen Reyes (12-Geronimo), & Sam Tango (12-Walpole), ASHS A emerged as grand champion of the National Asians High School Debating Championship (NAsHSDC) 2023, which was held online via Zoom and Discord on September 1-3 & 9-10, 2023. This marks the 4th championship for the ASHS since the inception of NAsHDC, and our school’s 5th consecutive finals appearance therein.

Our debaters also bagged five speaker awards in the tournament. Leading the awardees was Tango, who was named NAsHDC’s Open Finals Best Speaker and 3rd Best Open Speaker. Teammates Ang and Reyes were also named the country’s 5th Best Open Speaker and 10th Best Open Speaker, respectively. Last but not least, fellow ASHS debater Aki Delos Santos (12-Anchieta) of ASHS B was awarded 7th Best Open Speaker of NAsHDC.

Team ASHS B, which rostered Delos Santos, Jamie Antonio (12-Pro), and Kiel Mirandilla (12-Kibe) as members, ended its run as national quarterfinalist.
NAsHDC is the largest high school debate tournament in the Asian Parliamentary format in the Philippines, and is hosted annually by the La Salle Debate Society.The 2023 competition attracted 60 teams from schools such as British School Manila, Xavier School, and Philippine Science High School.
