The Economics Department held its first Turo Guro seminar-workshop last July 22, 2023 with the support of the Ateneo Teacher Center. The whole-day event, entitled "Econ-tuhan Live: Understanding Economic Cycles and Adapting to the Effects of Disruptions", was held at Faber Hall 101, Ateneo de Manila University.

The opening lecture was by Dr. Alvin Ang, who discussed the different phases of the economic and business cycles as he showed empirical data for context. A panel discussion, moderated by Atty. Jan Fredrick Cruz, on the sources and effects of disruptions followed where Dr. Noel de Guzman gave a historical review of major economic and financial disruptions, and Mr. Joey Sescon talked about disruptions coming from technological sources, including his take on artificial intelligence, while guest DepEd Asst. Sec. Dexter Galban discussed the state of basic education amidst and after Covid- 19. Atty. Cruz then engaged the panelists in an interesting conversation, where the high school teachers were able to actively participate as well.

The afternoon session focused on coping and adapting behavior. Mr. Genesis Lontoc gave a practical talk on personal finance as families prepare for risks and build their resiliency. Then Ms. Angel America facilitated an interactive workshop with the high school teachers, putting them in small groups, as they answer guide questions related to the effects of disruptions on economic and academic life, as well as the disposition, values and skills necessary in adapting. The participants then presented their group work and Ms. America gave her feedback and synthesis.

The other moderators and organizers included Economics teacher Mr. Charlon Mayo, Economics Outreach Committee head Dr. Cristina Bautista, graduate student assistant, Ms. Aya Gulapa and Ateneo Teacher Center Director Ms. Rita Atienza.

The afternoon was capped with a free optional tour of the Arete Museum in the campus.
