On Monday, 26 June 2023, the Ateneo de Manila University hosted the launch of Lusog-Isip Para Sa Lahat, a suite of digital tools for mental health and substance use. The event was held in commemoration of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The launch featured the Lusog-Isip mobile app, its website, and the Lusog-Isip Kabataan Education (LIKE) program. These tools were developed by the Department of Health (DOH) and USAID’s RenewHealth project, promoted in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), as well as schools and universities.
Lusog-Isip is the first mobile app for mental health and self-care “culturally-adapted for the Philippines.” The app and its website use evidence-based tools and interventions to promote healthy coping strategies. It offers self-help resources and materials, educational courses and videos, and a directory for clinics and organizations that one can approach if needed.
In his welcome remarks, University President Fr Roberto Yap SJ said: “We resonate with the call and the direction of the Department of Health for efficient, accessible, affordable and equitable healthcare for Filipinos.”
“We understand that much work needs to be done,” he added. “We are honored to host this event this afternoon, showcasing the university’s partnership with the USAID RenewHealth program and DOH in sharing digital tools for mental health and substance abuse.”
He continued: “Our University Research Council also funded the evaluation of the Lusog-Isip Kabataan Education (LIKE) program to address mental health and substance use issues for high school students. I am happy to note that our Office for Social Concern and Involvement at the Loyola Schools and faculty and students of the Department of Psychology participated in pilot-testing a peer-facilitated version of the LIKE program.”
Asec Dexter Galban of DepEd, Secretary Teodoro Herbosa of DOH, and Secretary Benhur C Abalos Jr of DILG attended the event, with Sec Herbosa giving the afternoon’s keynote address. He highlighted the importance of making mental health and mental health tools accessible to a wider audience.
The Lusog-Isip app is available on the App Store and Google Play. The website is also live at lusog-isip.ph.
