CBA Bulletin 4

08 Mar 2023

8 March 2023

[ENG] The University administration received a first Notice of Strike filed by the Ateneo Employees and Workers Union (AEWU) on 4 January 2023, later withdrawn on 24 January 2023. However, a second Notice of Strike was received on 16 February 2023.

The Ateneo Administration continues to work with the National Conciliation and Mediation Board, the Department of Labor and Employment, and the AEWU so that the University and the Union will reach a fair and just agreement that will benefit not only a few, but everyone who works in our shared mission. Unfortunately, even at today’s conciliation meeting, no agreement is yet in sight.

With the second Notice of Strike, prudence requires that the University prepares for the possibility that there could be a strike by the AEWU. The earliest time that the strike can take place, granting all requisite steps are complied with, will be on 26 March 2023.

The Administration is taking steps to ensure that there will be minimal to no disruption in University operations in case the Union conducts a strike. Contingency plans are already in place so that school operations, and delivery of services to various stakeholders in case of staff shortage, will continue.

In the event of a strike, the University will shift to online mode of operations. Classes at all levels will be conducted online. Work at all offices will be conducted online, working from home. Technical support will continue to be provided remotely.

All  the schools, units, and offices are requested to bolster their plans of shifting online in the event of a strike.

Although this may require some adjustments for the University community and our students' families, going online under these circumstances ensures everyone's safety and the continued delivery of learning and teaching.

We continue to ask for everyone’s prayers and support so that the negotiations will be concluded favorably.

[FIL] Nakatanggap ang administrasyon ng Pamantasan ng unang Notice of Strike na inihain ng Ateneo Employees and Workers Union (AEWU) noong 4 Enero 2023. Binawi rin ito noong 24 Enero 2023. Gayunpaman, natanggap ang ikalawang Notice of Strike noong 16 Pebrero 2023.
