Hybrid models for Onboarding and GST of University Sectors

First Semester provided the opportunity for the University Decorum and Investigation System (comprised of the University Gender Hub, University Office of Decorum and Investigation, and the University Gender and Development office) to test different hybrid models for onboarding and gender sensitivity training (GST) across the different units.

The fully online mode was utilized for TFI Onboarding during the Orientation for New and Returning Faculty last August 3, 2022.  This was held during Day 2 of the session with the general theme: “Welfare and Community.”  Also online was the onboarding and GST for LS SCODI (School Committee on Decorum and Investigation) held last August 19 for new LS SCODI members.

The University CODI (or UCODI) on the other hand, held their onboarding and GST last 22 September 2022 onsite and was attended by both new UCODI members who were joined by those who continue to serve their term in the coming school year.

Also, onsite but in hybrid mode were the Onboarding and GST for ASOG (Ateneo School of Government) and OSCI (Office of Social Concern and Involvement). ASOG onboarding was held on September 9, 2022 from 9:00 – 11:00 am while the OSCI onboarding took place onsite with an online cohort on September 15, 2022 from 1:00 – 3:00 pm.

The Rizal library (October 19, 2022) and OHRMOD (October 20, 2022) also opted for a hybrid mode of delivery with majority of the group onsite.

Campus Facilities Management Office (CFMO) Onboarding and GST took place as three sessions which began on October 28. All sessions for CFMO were held onsite.  This was also the case for Senior High School staff and professionals that likewise opted for a fully onsite onboarding and GST last November 17.

Team Captains and Team Managers Onboarding September 2, 2022, from 1:00-3:00 pm at the Blue Eagle gym marking the return to onsite onboarding and GST for student groups. This was part of a longer program on leadership for the Captains and Managers of student sports teams.

JHS and SHS onboarding and GST was held in the context of the grade 7 and grade 11 orientations.  JHS utilized an asynchronous online model while SHS opted to utilize a facilitated online synchronous session during their freshie orientation.

Stand with Pride: One Big Pride 2022

The Ateneo de Manila University celebrated pride month in October as it “stands with pride and continues to celebrate individuals, student organizations, committees and offices that champion inclusion and diversity in the University Community.  This year’s theme “stand with pride” speaks in solidarity with individual and collective efforts to create spaces for conversation and action towards making our university inclusive, gender-responsive, and safe for all.” This month’s activities continue to respond to Fr. Bobby Yap’s message that describes which Ateneo de Manila community as one that “chooses to heed the call to address gender inequalities and bridge gender divides…our work towards social transformation is not complete if we do not include the crucial work of addressing gender issues and bridging gender divides in our university and our country.”

The highlight of this year’s calendar is One Big Pride: The Pride March and Opening Ceremony which took place on October 11, 2022.  The march began in Xavier Hall and continued around the LS Campus towards Bellarmine field.  The LS students were also joined by a contingent from the SHS and JHS in solidarity and support.

The activities were organized by the Sanggunian ng Mag-aaral ng Ateneo (Sanggu) and their Commission on Gender Equality (CGE).

Commencement of the 3rd year Audit of the Ateneo de Manila Code of Decorum and Administrative Rules on Sexual Harassment, Other Forms of Sexual Misconduct, and Inappropriate Behavior

2022 marks the beginning of the 3rd year of the “Code and Rules” and the University has begun the process of auditing the Code and Rules via UGDO memo to the University Community on last August 30, 2022.  The audit will be undertaken in three phases:

·        Phase 1: August – December 2022 (compliance and document review)

·        Phase 2: January – April 2023 (stakeholder survey and review of CODI and SCODI recommendations)

·        Phase 3: May – August 2023 (process review and call for proposed changes)

Creating Safe Spaces through Continuing Conversations and Capacity Building: 8 November – 25 November 2022

The Ateneo de Manila supports the 18-day Campaign to end Violence against Women and Children by promoting safe spaces as guided by Philippine Commission on Women directives for this campaign to the Academe and Educational institutions to:

·        Include concepts of VAW and women’s human rights in lesson plans/lesson guides of your teaching staff

·        Continually conduct/spearhead anti-VAW advocacies in your campus, and if possible, to your immediate community through extension programs.

·        Setup a Committee on Decorum and Investigation (CODI) where students and employees can seek help.

The University supports such measures through activities designed to strengthen existing institutions and promote the participation of all advocates, front lining offices and committees, student leaders and community members.

Among the highlights of this year’s campaign were webinars by various University as well as participation in external webinars, training and online campaigns.  One such training was given by Dr. Jesusa Pando Canteli of the University of Deusto, Bilbao last November 10.  Dr. Pando discussed “The Gender Perspective in Teaching and Research: How to build a Gender-Sensitive Curriculum” with various University stakeholders from both the basic education and higher education units.
