ASoG holds Virtual Kapihan with Baguio City Mayor and retired PNP Deputy Director General, Hon. Benjamin Magalong

The Ateneo School of Government (ASoG) held its 7th Virtual Kapihan sa ASoG today, 19 November 2022, with the Honorable Benjamin B. Magalong, Mayor of Baguio City and retired Deputy Director General of the Philippine National Police.

The Mayor shared insights drawing from his experiences as a seasoned public servant—with almost four decades of service in the PNP, and now as the Local Chief Executive of Baguio City. ASoG students and faculty attended the event and discussed various issues, motivations, and styles of leadership with the Mayor.

Mayor Magalong, in his closing remarks, highlighted three essential traits of an authentic leader: 

- competence, which encompasses the knowledge and skills needed to fulfill a job;

- humility, or knowing when and how to admit one’s own faults and being open to feedback from one’s team; and finally, 

- integrity which he described as “walking the talk” of good governance and ethical leadership.

The Virtual Kapihan sa ASoG is a quarterly event organized for the faculty and students of the ASoG.
