18 Aug 2022
On 16 August 2022, the Ateneo School of Government’s (ASOG) Ateneo Policy Center (APC), in partnership with the National Defense College of the Philippines’ (NDCP) Philippine Center of Excellence in Defense, Development, and Security (PCEDS), jointly organized the roundtable discussion with the theme “To Win Without Fighting: A Roundtable Discussion on Modern Political Warfare” at Luxent Hotel, Quezon City.
In her opening remarks, APC Head Ivyrose Baysic opined that ASOG is more than willing to deepen engagement on this topic and help capacitate personnel in the national security and defense sectors who will educate their respective offices and units on modern political warfare. Furthermore, she said, this RTD seeks to understand, identify, and analyze modern political warfare and determine the participants’ diverging views and areas of debate on the subject matter.
Meanwhile, ASOG Professor of Praxis and APC Senior Research Fellow RADM ROMMEL JUDE G ONG PN (Ret), MDM, served as the RTD’s first speaker on the topic of the overview of modern political warfare, where he said that there is a lack of knowledge on political warfare, there is a large body of work available from which to study it, and there is a need within the security and defense sectors to conduct the study.
The RTD invited active military officers affiliated with intelligence, strategic studies, international affairs, plans, and operations and civilian researchers and analysts who previously worked on related research.
