Climate change is what we might call a “wicked problem,” or a complex socio-cultural problem. These problems can be traced to several root causes, but also have several cascading effects. Though these cascading effects might not always be obvious, we can see the tendrils of climate everywhere if we take a moment to think about how everything is interconnected.

Climate affects everything: the places we live in, the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and even how we think of the world around us. However, sometimes the connections may seem vague and theoretical. Klim@ (a play on the Filipino phrase ‘Klima at’, or ‘Climate and’) is a project that seeks to explore the connections between climate change and the everyday things around us, simplifying the complex connections and democratizing knowledge about climate change and its impacts. Each feature will focus on one main subject, its name following the ‘@’ symbol in the title.

Examining these connections are just some of the ways we can make sense of the magnitude of climate change, while also appreciating the interconnectedness between climate and the world around us. Having a greater understanding of these relationships can also inform how we think of and interact with them: whether it’s by making conscious decisions about what we buy and how we live, or learning more and engaging with those around us. Beyond its palpable dimensions, there exists an intentional and conscious bind, where climate knowledge – and thus action – thrives not in isolation but through collaboration.
