Keeping Ateneo’s carbon neutrality on track: Meet Earl John Villosino, our greenhouse gas accounting officer
03 Jul 2025

Ateneo de Manila University’s commitment to sustainability is deeply inspired by the Laudato Si encyclical—an urgent call to care for our common home and respond to the cry of the earth. Central to this mission is Earl, the University’s Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Accounting Officer, who plays a key role in ensuring Ateneo stays on course toward its goal of carbon neutrality.
Earl is part of the Central Facilities Management Office (CFMO) team, led by Director Michael Canlas, which oversees the University’s sustainability initiatives and facility operations to support a greener, more sustainable campus.
With a strong engineering background, Earl earned his Bachelor of Science in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Taguig and completed graduate coursework in Manufacturing Engineering at De La Salle University.
Starting his career in glass container manufacturing, Earl specialized in production maintenance, instrumentation, and control systems. Over time, his expertise expanded to quality management, sustainability initiatives, and sustainability reporting—skills essential for managing Ateneo’s GHG accounting and tracking its carbon footprint.
In his current role at CFMO, Earl is responsible for measuring and managing the University’s greenhouse gas emissions, helping to align Ateneo’s operations with its Laudato Si journey toward carbon neutrality.
Aside from his work at Ateneo, Earl is a part-time lecturer at PUP-Taguig, where he teaches instrumentation and control, environmental engineering, engineering ethics, and occupational safety and health—bringing practical experience into the classroom.
Together with Director Canlas and the CFMO team, Earl contributes to the ongoing work of integrating sustainability into the day-to-day functioning of the University.
