The IXS Palaro was more than just a sports event—it was a heartwarming celebration where international and Filipino students came together, transforming friendly competition into moments of laughter, teamwork, and lasting friendships. To capture these memorable experiences, we asked students to reflect on their IXS Palaro journey, and they generously agreed to share their thoughts with us.
Finding Joy in Play
The games were not only about winning but also about connecting and creating joyful memories.
"The best part was reconnecting with students and sharing laughs with the Filipino organizers," one participant shared. "It's those moments of sharing that mean the most."
Another IXS student, Albane, fondly recalled the excitement of the final team game, where teamwork and encouragement took center stage. Meanwhile, Jonathan enthusiastically recounted his double victory in Patintero: "... we had to run avoiding being touched by the defender and I won 2 times and really I was excited," he said.
Connecting Through Teamwork
The event fostered a sense of unity, as participants formed bonds while working toward shared goals.
"The teams were formed randomly," one participant explained. "The games required teamwork, so we naturally started talking and connecting."
Albane appreciated how well-mixed the teams were, blending Filipino and international students. "We created a truly motivated and united team," she said. Jonathan agreed, saying, "...unfortunately we were 2nd but it was very nice to help each other."
Learning Filipino Culture
Beyond the games, participants gained meaningful insights into Filipino traditions and values. One participant expressed gratitude for learning about Filipino childhood games and the organizers' kindness.
Albane admired the Filipinos' playful yet encouraging spirit, while Jonathan appreciated the lesson in being social and helpful to everyone around him.
The IXS Palaro left participants with cherished friendships and a deeper understanding of Filipino culture. As one participant said, "It's those moments of sharing that mean the most."
