AGSB “Daluyong” OrSem inspires incoming students with vision, values, and community

The Ateneo Graduate School of Business convened students, faculty, and staff to guide and connect the new batch of learners to the AGSB community through an Orientation Seminar held at the APS Auditorium last 26 October 2024. Satellite campus students from Cebu, Clark, Iloilo and Sta Rosa joined via Zoom, allowing for a fully inclusive experience across campuses.
Opening with a Mass of the Holy Spirit, Fr Robbie Sian SJ was joined by two new MBA students who are also priests, Fr Gerald Moscardon and Fr Edrylle Dayrit, setting a reflective and meaningful tone for the event. In his homily, Fr Robbie emphasized that love is the greatest advocacy of all and encouraged attendees to lead with compassion.
Dean’s Address: The AGSB Advantage
During his welcome remarks, Dean Jowett Cecilio Magsaysay introduced AGSB’s unique value proposition, emphasizing Management Fundamentals alongside three core cornerstones within a Jesuit Education framework. This approach shapes graduates to become responsible business leaders who are equipped to lead digital transformation and embody a commitment to purpose-driven leadership.
Resource and Support Services
Students were introduced to the various resources and support systems available throughout their academic journey. Ms. Carmela Bombales, Business Reference and Information Services Librarian at the Rizal Library, provided a comprehensive guide on accessing valuable online resources. Additionally, Ms. Michelle Cabahug, Director of the Campus Ministry Office in Higher Education, shared the range of programs available, including retreats, recollections, and spiritual accompaniment services designed to enrich the holistic growth of students.
Student Leadership Initiatives
Mr. Dennis Ryan Cruz, Director of Student Activities and Formation, discussed the AGSB’s vision, mission, and core values, reinforcing the school’s commitment to forming purpose-driven business leaders. Mr. Danilo Yambao, Jr., newly-elected President of the Student Council, introduced upcoming activities including The Magis Journey, a community meet-and-greet; AGSBigay 4.0, a charitable initiative; and, STRAMA Deep Dive to support students in the Strategic Management course. To encourage student involvement, the Student Council set up recruitment booths for organizations like the Alpha Eagles, Basketball League, Blue Smashers (Badminton Club), and the AGSB Chamber of Commerce.
A highlight of the OrSem was the Q&A session which provided students the opportunity to engage directly with AGSB administrators, addressing their questions related to academics and other aspects of student life.
Inspirational Alumni and Faculty Guest Speakers
The OrSem also featured insightful talks from Anna Cruz, CPA, MBA, a 2022 Gold Medalist from the Ateneo-Regis MBA Program. As CEO and CFO of Excelsis Pharma Inc. and CEO of Gapan Drug Inc., Anna shared her transformative MBA journey and the impact of AGSB on her professional achievements. She encouraged the new batch to make the most of their time at AGSB, leveraging both academic and experiential learning.
In addition, Prof Remigio Joseph De Ungria, Jr, a respected AGSB faculty member, shared his multifaceted career as a professional manager, professor, consultant, and business owner. Prof De Ungria offered tips on how students can start, enjoy, and successfully complete their MBA journey, underscoring the program’s rigorous yet rewarding nature.
A Heartfelt Finale
The OrSem concluded with the attendees singing A Song for Mary, the University’s Alma Mater song, encapsulating the Ignatian spirit and sense of community at AGSB.
The success of this OrSem for the 1st Trimester of SY 2024-2025 with its resources, insights, and connections, has set a strong foundation for the incoming students, inspiring them as they begin their journey at the Ateneo Graduate School of Business.
